There Is Something Missing
Written and transcribed by Terry Grant

I have transcribed and edited the following message from a talk Ishvara gave on May 28, 2006. - TG.

Ishvara:

This awareness involves realizing the uniqueness of each aspect of Life, an all-inclusive Is-ness that is continuously unfolding. It is too easy to look at the conditions, the consensus reality, and the programming. These seem to dictate what is. These seem to say, "This is what it is to be a human being; it involves these processes, these happenings."

I suggest that you really look at a unique specimen of the universe--whichever one you choose. If you do, you will recognize that it is distinct, it is different. There are certain aspects, certain abilities, within that uniqueness. In our world of conditional realities, there is a great emphasis on being the same, being "like," conforming, following the program, "Well, this is what it's like to be an American, and anything outside of that is illegal." Such an attitude, such a perception, to assume that something of the uniqueness could possibly be unworthy!

Everything has its place. It is easy to embrace those things that are in their place, as long as they fit "your place." It is more difficult to embrace the things that are out of place according to your perspective.

There seems to be a constant struggle for everything, from bugs to people. It is really the same at every level: the struggle for survival. What could be the origin of that struggle? How did all this struggling come about? It seems to be that Life is quite natural. Life happens. Then how did the struggle arise? It seems that it has been an attribute of being human, or being anything for that matter. It may be more difficult to see how the rock is struggling to be the rock, but think about how old rocks are, and how much battering they have taken over their lifetime, the elements constantly wearing away at them, just chewing away. They too are "struggling," in a sense.

Most traditions will tell us that struggling and suffering are parts of Life. "If you are going to be a human being, you are going to suffer." It is said that suffering will be with you always. One teacher reportedly said, "The poor you will have with you always." "Always" is quite a long time! It seems to me that there is something missing. If that is the lot of human existence--to be suffering and to be poor--it is easy to conclude that humans are being punished for some reason. Even supposedly upright, good people, still suffer, so they too are being punished, or so it seems.

Could it be that some ingredient is missing in this human arena? Could it be that some assumption has been made and adhered to? Could it be simply a matter of belief?

In the human arena, it seems that one can go only so far. You can achieve so much, and that's it. There is always the striving to achieve more, but what is "more"? More of the same thing you have already? That may be "more" in terms of amount, but that is all it is.

All of Life has the inherent potential to become "more"--"more" in the sense of different, unique, outside of the perceived boundaries. But the systems and structures instruct you to remain within the boundary. As a child, you must learn to color within the lines. You don't get much praise if you color outside the lines. You pick up the idea that you are supposed to stay within the lines. "If you want to amount to something, stay within the lines."

In this way, everyone is programmed from the very beginning: "Stay within the lines," "Conform," "Be like everyone else." Yet there is a drive within that is unique, and it does not want to be like everyone else. There is already enough of "everyone else"! There needs to be a unique manifestation, a unique happening, not like everyone else. There must be something that goes outside of the lines, something that isn't bound and limited. It is the missing ingredient in this human arena.

Life goes along in a certain manner, as a material existence, often with a solid or cellular structure. It has a certain stationary appearance, and some flexibility. Things appear to be solid and structured, bounded, limited, and so it is no wonder that the perception is, "That's the way it is supposed to be."

In school, you become like a parrot: you repeat what you are told, and the better you are at repeating it, the better grades you get. If you argue the point, if you ask, "Why," there is often no encouragement. There again, something is missing. You go to school to learn, but you learn what you are told to learn, you learn what serves someone's agenda.

Why not go to school to experience something unique, something different, something that is not known? If everybody else knows it already, what is the point of knowing that? It is already known. Yet our system is that you go to school to learn what other people have already learned. In that way you remain controlled, kept within a box: "This is what it is to be a student, you learn these things, and then you get to go to the next grade where you learn other things, and they are all things that are already known." You don't learn, really; you are being programmed.

This weekly message is based on weekly talks given by Ishvara, at Alaya and have been transcribed by Terry Grant. Ishvara's talks are inspired by the world, current events, and the energy that is the Space itself. They are direct from the presence of the moment, of the space of Life. Ishvara is not a channel or a guru. Ishvara exists at a higher frequency and at all frequencies and shares these with us so that we may follow, transform our mental, emotional and physical selves and contribute to humanity in evolving into a new species of being. The intent of these weekly messages is to inspire from a higher frequency and offer insight on transformation, evolution and how to exist within the world among many problems and disfunction without being controlled by those environments.

Alaya is a community that exists in the Presence of Ishvara. Alaya exists at a higher frequency, where every action throughout the day is done with conscious intent. Everyday, menial tasks are done with higher thought, showing that to be conscious in every act, not just in meditation or on retreat, is to show that one is ready to transform, and in so doing, one transforms and evolves in every moment, not just at predetermined times. Transformation can be difficult at times, especially at an accelerated frequency. When this happens, it is a time to pause and collect oneself, evening out one's energy into a more stable form. Grounding the energy of transformation into the physical is one way to return to balance. The physical is often far slower to change than the rest of ourselves. Alaya is dedicated to transformation, and this it does, in every day.
